I have a Mac Pro and running between the Asteroid and MacMiner programs to attempt some kind of mining. I have joined mining pools on both Supr Nova, We Mine Ltc and Coinotron.
I've kind of grasped the roots of setting up workers and bringing this into the miner but the wheel keeps spinning and never gets to any actual mining. Is LTC worth mining, what are the returns on this? I have little to no money to invest so I was considering buying small bits of LTC to build up in trading, would this be better than buying smaller shares in Bitcoin? Thanks for any help and advice, I'll be happy to give more info if needs be if this is something someone can help out on:) I hope everyone is well!:) • • • • •. Hey thanks so much for the reply. I haven't disabled the GPU in Asteroid so I'm guessing it's using that. I have 32gb Ram and the Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM if that's any help?
However Asteroid just would not start mining, I've gone onto my Macbook Pro, with awful config and it's started mining but all settings such keep representing 0, but saying occasionally blocks are being found. Thanks for the subreddit to check out, I didn't realised it existed. Do you think it's worth me just investing a little each month instead rather than to mine myself? Again thanks for your help! Blocks being found probably means: every time a new block is found on the pool that you are using. Whilst the GPU and CPU are extremely well done for workstation hardware, especially at those prices - it wouldn't be worth using that hardware for mining.
Not only that, you would also put your hardware under extreme stress leading to hardware damage being more common. I don't think you would want that. But, if you did choose to mine on a scrypt hashing scheme coin, such as Litecoin, you would probably reach around 400-500kh/s (running on both CPU and GPUs) - which is no longer profitable. Look at the result of this calculator:- If you put electricity into the equation, you would soon find out that you were spending more money on electricity than trying to mine Litecoin. Even the most profitable coin, which is only of course a temporary dump and pump coin (not a good community, relatively new, big market value increase and decreases), you would only make around $1.00.
Still meaning that electricity is more expensive than mining. In my own opinion, Litecoin would be the best coin to buy. A few new and upcoming projects should increase LTC's popularity. Apart from Bitcoin and Litecoin (and DOGE), pretty much every other altcoin has been unable to keep market value and interest for a long period of time. Unlike BTC, Litecoin's community is the most transparent, but obviously there is going to be more work put into that.
